Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended higher Monday sept 7
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 (Bernama) — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended higher Monday with the key index up 0.99 per cent, as investors took the cue from positive gains in regional bourses and Wall Street as better-than-expected US jobs data fuelled hope of the economic recovery, a dealer said.
Finance and plantation stocks were among the major gainers while the pharmaceutical and glove counters enjoyed strong interests, benefiting from the outbreak of the Influenza A (H1N1) epidemic.
At close, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) rose 11.65 points to 1,190.39 after trading at intra-day low of 1,178.74. The key index had opened 1.51 points higher at 1,180.25 this morning.
The FBM Emas surged 78.32 points to 8,026.55, the FBM Top 100 went up 75.40 points to 7,804.76, the FBM70 increased 72.45 points to 7,900.93 and the FBM Ace Index was 9.21 points higher at 4,141.38.
The Finance Index climbed 105.51 points to 9,632.20, the Industrial Index gained 21.23 points to 2,607.54 and the Plantation Index advanced 44.95 points to 5,832.89.
Gainers outnumbered losers by 467 to 213 while 214 counters were unchanged and 360 others untraded.
A total turnover of 708.738 million shares worth RM1.073 billion were transacted Monday, up from Friday’s 609.163 million units worth RM1.075 billion. Overall, the market remained bullish, with the FBM KLCI expected to re-test 1,200 points level after the adequate correction last week, an analsyt said.
” The key index could certainly continue its advance, but the risk of a pullback increases when securities are overbought,” he said, adding that long term traders must buy with a wide stop loss to tolerate unexpected pullback.
CCM Duopharma Biotech gained nine sen to RM2.57. The company has submitted a RM60 million tender to the Health Ministry to supply Omiflu anti-viral drug to treat influenza-related diseases.
Topping the actives, KNM Group edged down half a sen to 73.5 sen while Genting Singapore (C) rose 10.5 sen to 39 sen, Konsortium Transnasional advanced half a sen to 26.5 sen, Kurnia Asia rose seven sen to 62 sen and Genting Malaysia perked up three sen to RM2.89.
British American Tobacco was the top gainer, up 58 sen to RM45.56, while the top loser was Kia Lim, down 19.5 sen to 20 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Sime Darby rose three sen to RM8.27 and Maybank gained two sen to RM6.50 while Bumiputra-Commerce advanced 12 sen to RM10.34.
Volume on the Main Market surged to 611.084 million shares worth RM1.047 billion compared with 541.893 million shares worth RM1.059 billion last Friday.
The ACE market volume climbed to 42.665 million shares worth RM9.681 million versus 37.055 million shares worth RM6.239 million.
Warrants jumped to 52.556 million shares worth RM15.445 million from 27.829 million units worth RM6.239 million previously.
Consumer products accounted for 81.553 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 153.603 million, construction 42.859 million, trade and services 186.480 million, technology 22.640 million, infrastructure 13.718 million, finance 52.389 million, hotels 1.157 million, properties 44.346 million, plantations 10.417 million, Mining 23,100, REITs 1.842 million and closed/fund 57,900.
